Apple appears to have some new plans for the Mesa, Arizona factory that once housed the sapphire-screen manufacturer. According to a new report, the tech giant will turn the factory into a new data center.</p> <!--break--> <p>From
Bloomberg:</p>
<p>The data center will employ 150 full-time Apple employees and will create 300 to 500 construction and trade jobs, Doug Ducey, Arizona's governor, said in a telephone interview. The factory will be powered by 100 percent renewable energy, including from a new local solar farm, Apple said.</p>
<p>Bloomberg also notes that the deal will see Apple investing upwards of $2 billion in the conversion of the factory to a data center.</p> <p>Apple
previously committed to repurposing the Mesa, Arizona facility in November of last year. At the time, it was unclear of how the company would go about doing so, but this news signals that it is indeed committed to creating jobs in the community in the wake of GT Advanced's bankruptcy.</p> <p>Source:
