FreedomPop launches free 4G data plan in the UK

US budget carrier FreedomPop is making its debut in the UK, launching its "completely free mobile service" in the country. The MVNO is offering the free "Basic 200" plan, which includes 200 minutes, 200 texts and 200MB of 4G data each month. To further incentivize the plan, FreedomPop is giving 1000 minutes, 1000 text and 1GB of data (for the first month of service) to the first 10,000 customers that sign up.

Of course, the plan isn't entirely free, as you have to pay £6.99 for the SIM card activation and delivery, and an additional £1.99 per month for "continued service." Also bundled with the service is a "Premium Voice" trial, which is free for the first month, and £1.99 monthly after the first 30 days.

If you're looking for a larger data allowance, the £9 per month plan comes with 1000 minutes, 1000 texts and 1GB of data, and there's a £12 per month option that offers 2GB of data and unlimited minutes and texts.

You also get free usage alerts that notify you once you're nearing your data limit, which comes in handy as the overage charges are 1.5 pence per MB for the "Basic 200" plan, and 1 pence per MB for the other plans. The MVNO will use Three's network in the UK for data services, with calls and texts handled by the FreedomPop app, available on Android and iOS.

FreedomPop is looking to bring subsidized handsets and more "compelling plans and services" to UK shores by the end of the year, with a target to expand to seven new markets within the next 12 months, and 20 countries by 2017.

Subscribe to FreedomPop's free plan in the UK[/url]

Source: FreedomPop
