  Fire OS 5, the latest version of the operating system that drives Amazon’s more sophisticated tablets, removed a full-device encryption option available in the previous release. Amazon says it was because few users enabled it, but that’s the wrong way to approach encryption. A few days after a kerfuffle arose, the company says it will restore the option in a month or two.
