Apple posts legally-mandated Samsung 'apology' letter on its UK website

Apple early Friday posted a message to customers regarding the Samsung / Apple UK legal judgment on the UK version of its website. The message—technically an apology—was ordered by Judge Colin Birss, after Apple lost its case alleging Samsung copied the iPad. Per the judge’s order, Apple needed to “correct the damaging impression” that Samsung had ripped off Apple’s innovations.

As you might expect, Apple’s printed apology is about as sweet as wasabi.

The message quotes the judge’s ruling that the iPad sports “a cool design,” and that Samsung’s Galaxy tablets “are not as cool.” It also quotes the judge’s statement that the Galaxy tablets “do not have the same understated and extreme simplicity which is possessed by the Apple design.”

The message further makes reference to the German “unfair competition” lawsuit in which Apple emerged victorious over Samsung, along with the recent U.S. verdict awarding Apple more than $1 billion in damages from Samsung.
