Google Translate for the iPhone and iPad can now work offline

Google is rolling out a new update for its Translate app for the iPhone and iPad. Among other things, it adds a way to translate texts while the device is offline.

Google says:

Offline Mode is easy to set up: Just tap the arrow next to the language name to download the package for that language, and then you'll be ready to do text translations whether you're online or not. We've just added a Filipino language pack, bringing our total number of offline languages to 52.

The language packs used for Translate's Offline Mode have also been reduced in size by 90% to make them easier to download.
