March and April, 2020 brought another Team GO Rocket Special Research and this time Giovanni captured the Legendary beast, Entei! By completing the Special Research: The Shadowy Threat Grows, you can defeat Giovanni, rescue Shadow Entei, and Purify the Legendary Beast. This is the last Team GO Rocket monthly Special Research until September, 2020, but as of July 10, players can encounter Shadow Suicune, as well as new lineups for the Team GO Rocket Leaders, and even Jesse and James!
As of July 7, 2020, Team GO Rocket hot air balloons now spawn on the map like Pokémon encounters. These hot air balloons operate in the same way as invaded PokéStops, allowing players to challenge Team GO Rocket Grunts, Executives, and even Giovanni himself, all without the need to travel to PokéStops.
