Apple must keep its app store activity records for 60 days in China

The government of China has imposed some new rules on mobile app stores, including the one that is owned and run by Apple. Among other things, the new regulations require app stores to keep a log of user activity for at least 60 days.





Bloomberg reports that the new regulations were posted on China's Cyberspace Administration website:


  All app stores and providers are now required to keep a record of users' activity for 60 days. And in an effort to boost privacy protection, they must now seek a user's consent before collecting personal information, location data and contacts lists from them.


In addition, all developers that publish apps on mobile stores must be verified, according to the new rules. They are mostly aimed at Apple, as the Google Play Store is not available in China. It is speculated that these regulations are another attempt by the Chinese government to censor on what they would consider to be offensive content on mobile devices.
