If it all goes according to plan, you could soon be able to switch mobile carriers by going to the settings page on your smartphone.</p><p>
On Thursday The Financial Times (http://www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/0/fc78a3ea-294b-11e5-acfb-cbd2e1c81cca.html?desktop=true#axzz3g4D5SZfL) (paywall) reported that Apple and Samsung are in “advanced talks” with telecom operators from all over the world to launch new electronic SIM cards. These e-SIM cards would be standardized among both smartphone makers and come embedded in their devices, creating a “common architecture.” Unlike physical SIM cards, e-SIM cards offer more flexibility to users.
