iA Writer 3.0.1 review: Mac app gets back to basics for focused writing

<p>When Information Architects released their Mac app iA Writer (http://www.macworld.com/article/1164543/ia_writer_is_a_solid_no_distraction_writing_tool.html) nearly five years ago, it was one of the first distraction-free text editors. When I did a round-up of text editors in 2014 (http://www.macworld.com/article/2147000/the-best-focused-writing-apps-for-os-x.html), iA Writer was my top choice because of its simplicity.</p><p>Information Architects later released Writer Pro (http://www.macworld.com/article/2092271/writer-pro-review-text-editor-works-well-if-you-work-its-way.html), an app that I found confusing, and that I felt contained some needless features. The company has now backtracked, returning the app to its minimalist origins, with iA Writer 3 (https://ia.net/writer/updates/ia-writer-3) (Mac App Store link (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ia-writer-pro/id775737590?mt=12&amp;ign-mpt=uo%3D4)), which restores the simplicity of the original app while retaining some of the additional features of Writer Pro.
