Apple’s latest car hire could steer the company toward autonomous driving

Apple’s Bob Mansfield, most famous for his work on the iMac, iPad, MacBook Air, and special projects like the Apple Watch, was recently put in charge of the company’s top secret car project (http://www.macworld.com/article/3099674/hardware/report-apple-special-projects-guru-bob-mansfield-takes-the-wheel-on-apple-car.html). His first order of business appears to be hiring an operating system expert: former BlackBerry developer Dan Dodge.</p><p>
According to Bloomberg (http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-07-28/apple-taps-blackberry-talent-as-car-project-takes-software-turn), Mansfield tapped Dodge to work on autonomous driving software for Apple’s car division, code-named Project Titan, signaling that the company is pivoting from building its own car to making the tech that will power the next generation of cars.
