Title: Quick Review: You probably shouldn’t buy this awesome MacBook Pro MagSafe 2/ 5-port USB Charger Post by: HCK on October 13, 2016, 04:05:19 pm Quick Review: You probably shouldn’t buy this awesome MacBook Pro MagSafe 2/ 5-port USB Charger
<div class="feat-image">(https://9to5mac.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/macbook-usb-magsafe-charger.jpg?quality=82&strip=all&strip=all&w=1600&h=1000)</div> <p>After a lot of abuse, my MacBook Pro’s 85W MagSafe 2 (https://9to5mac.wordpress.com/guides/magsafe-2/) adapter finally died last week. Often Apple adapters fray at joints and this one did to an insane degree but somehow it kept working for 3 years through tons of travel, work and even some fun.</p> <div class="twitter-wrap"> <div class="embed-twitter"> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550"> <p lang="en" dir="ltr">My MagSafe needs to last another month. What’s the over/under? https://t.co/dZeV3ZHz1Z (https://t.co/dZeV3ZHz1Z) pic.twitter.com/EnKkmdX0d6 (https://t.co/EnKkmdX0d6)</p> <p>— Seth Weintraub (@llsethj) September 29, 2016 (https://twitter.com/llsethj/status/781480200341184512)</p> <p><script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></div> </div> <p>So what to do? Typically I’d buy a new Apple Magsafe 2 adapter (https://9to5mac.wordpress.com/guides/magsafe-2/). But clearly Apple has some redesigned MacBook/Pro/Airs (https://9to5mac.com/guides/2016-macbook-pro/) coming later this month (https://9to5mac.com/2016/09/29/2016-macbook-pro-launch-date-features/) and they will likely be charged via USB-C, at least in some cases. So that means I only need MagSafe to power this 2013 MacBook Pro for at least a few more weeks before it gets relegated to backup machine, kid’s computer or sold off when I get Apple’s new OLED/USB-C creation.</p> <p>So I thought I’d get a little creative and save a few bucks at the same time. As I was looking for options on Amazon, I came across an interesting product: The “BND 85W MagSafe 2 Replacement Power Adapter Charger w/ 5 USB Ports for Apple MacBook Pro” (https://www.amazon.com/BND-MagSafe-Replacement-Adapter-Charger/dp/B01DUCROMQ/ref=sr_1_1?sr=8-1&ie=UTF8&keywords=BND%2B85W%2BMagsafe&tag=thepartim-20&qid=1476280979). For less than half the price of a discounted $77 Apple MagSafe Adapter (https://www.amazon.com/Apple-MagSafe-Adapter-MacBook-Display/dp/B008ALAAV0/ref=sr_1_3?sr=8-3&qid=1476280718&keywords=Apple%252Bmagsafe%252B2&tag=thepartim-20&ie=UTF8) this $37 charger (https://www.amazon.com/BND-MagSafe-Replacement-Adapter-Charger/dp/B01DUCROMQ/ref=sr_1_1?sr=8-1&qid=1476280979&keywords=BND%252B85W%252BMagsafe&tag=thepartim-20&ie=UTF8) includes 5 USB ports and gets solid 4.3/5 star reviews. What the heck, I’ll give it a try… <a href="https://9to5mac.com/2016/10/12/best-magsafe-replacement/#more-449909" class="more-link">more…</p> Filed under: <a href='https://9to5mac.com/category/apple/'>Apple <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gocomments/9to5mac.wordpress.com/449909/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/comments/9to5mac.wordpress.com/449909/" /> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/godelicious/9to5mac.wordpress.com/449909/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/delicious/9to5mac.wordpress.com/449909/" /> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gofacebook/9to5mac.wordpress.com/449909/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/facebook/9to5mac.wordpress.com/449909/" /> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gotwitter/9to5mac.wordpress.com/449909/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/twitter/9to5mac.wordpress.com/449909/" /> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gostumble/9to5mac.wordpress.com/449909/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/stumble/9to5mac.wordpress.com/449909/" /> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/godigg/9to5mac.wordpress.com/449909/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/digg/9to5mac.wordpress.com/449909/" /> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/goreddit/9to5mac.wordpress.com/449909/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/reddit/9to5mac.wordpress.com/449909/" /> <img alt="" border="0" src="https://pixel.wp.com/b.gif?host=9to5mac.com&blog=22754319&post=449909&subd=9to5mac&ref=&feed=1" width="1" height="1" /><img alt="" border="0" src="https://pixel.wp.com/b.gif?host=9to5mac.com&blog=22754319&post=449909&subd=9to5mac&ref=&feed=1" width="1" height="1" /><div class="feedflare"> <img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/9To5Mac-MacAllDay?i=C9-L0W5PLM8:QXuRddIssB0:D7DqB2pKExk" border="0"></img> (http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/9To5Mac-MacAllDay?a=C9-L0W5PLM8:QXuRddIssB0:D7DqB2pKExk) </div><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/9To5Mac-MacAllDay/~4/C9-L0W5PLM8" height="1" width="1" alt=""/> Source: Quick Review: You probably shouldn’t buy this awesome MacBook Pro MagSafe 2/ 5-port USB Charger (http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/9To5Mac-MacAllDay/~3/C9-L0W5PLM8/) |
