AT&T and Verizon want to lock out and lock down eSIM. Apple wants the government to stop them. eSIM allow customers to more easily choose between — and, theoretically switch between — carriers. So, of course, the dominant carriers in the U.S., AT&T and Verizon, aren't exactly fans of the technology. And they may just be blocking it to the extent that it constitutes antitrust. From The New York Times: The Justice Department has opened an antitrust investigation into potential coordination by AT&T, Verizon and a telecommunications standards organization to hinder consumers from easily switching wireless carriers, according to six people with knowledge of the inquiry.
