Today’s release of iOS 15.4 includes the major new addition (https://9to5mac.com/2022/03/14/new-features-in-ios-15-4-ipados-15-4/) of support for Face ID recognition while wearing a mask. Unfortunately, this feature is limited to only newer-model iPhones. Apple hasn’t published specific availability details, but it appears that this feature only works on the iPhone 12 and newer.
