<img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.tuaw.com/media/2010/01/240x175x343493408bc439ab28bm.jpg.pagespeed.ic.jqN9IE8QZm.jpg" style="margin: 8px; float: right; width: 240px; height: 175px;" //>New dial-in experience! Set up Fuze Meeting (http://www.fuzebox.com/products/fuzemeeting) before the show if you want to join in live.

Another Sunday, another TUAW talkcast (http://tuaw.com/tag/talkcast)! As you may know, Apple from time to time buys smaller companies like Anobit (http://www.tuaw.com/search/?q=Anobit), Embark (http://www.tuaw.com/search/?q=Embark), HopStop (http://www.tuaw.com/search/?q=HopStop), PrimeSense (http://www.tuaw.com/2013/11/24/apple-confirms-rumored-acquisition-of-kinect-maker-primesense/) and -- just this month -- Twitter analytics shop Topsy (http://www.tuaw.com/2013/12/02/apple-buys-twitter-analytics-firm-topsy-for-over-200-million/). All perfectly non-scary cute little technology companies.

Meanwhile, Google also buys smaller companies (http://techcrunch.com/2013/12/14/google-buys-boston-dynamics-creator-of-big-dog/)... like DARPA contractor-slash-nightmare fuel bulk provider Boston Dynamics (http://www.bostondynamics.com/), maker of nimble and speedy robots that could deliver a package or take out your Aunt Gertrude with equal aplomb. (If you are wondering what we could possibly mean by nightmare fuel (http://www.youtube.com/user/BostonDynamics), check it out (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqMVg5ixhd0).)

As The Next Web mused (http://thenextweb.com/apple/2013/12/15/apple-moonshot-look-like), there seems to be some air gap between the "moonshot" programs and acquisitions pursued by Google versus the more strategic and product-centric purchasing approach at Apple. If there were an Apple moonshot, what might it look like -- and which innovations would be part of the program? We'll discuss this and all the week's stories, right here on ye olde Talkcast (http://www.tuaw.com/tag/Talkcast/) live tonight.

Reminder on new-style talkcasting: With some help from the fine folks at Fuze (https://www.fuzebox.com/products/fuzemeeting), we're using a new system to record the show. This should let everyone listen in live -- and, if you want, raise your hand as you would in the Talkshoe room to get unmuted and chime in.

You can join the call in progress (meeting # is 20099010) at 10 pm ET from any computer via this link (http://fuze.me/20099010); if you download the Mac or Windows Fuze clients (http://www.fuzebox.com/products/download) ahead of time, you'll get better audio and a slicker experience, but browser-only will work fine. Just click the phone icon to join the audio once you're in.

Using an iPhone or iPad? Grab the native clients from the App Store (https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/fuzebox-software-corporation/id290206249) and get busy. (Even Android users can join the party (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fuzebox.fuze.android&hl=en).) Still feel like using the conventional phone dial-in? Just call 775-996-3562 and enter the meeting number 20099010, then press #.

While the Fuze web and native clients have a chat channel, we'd like to reserve that for host participants, requests to talk and other real-time alerts... so the full-on chat for the show will appear in this very post at 10 pm tonight. You'll need Twitter, Facebook or Chatroll (http://chatroll.com/signup?groupId=IvHQfNfuQ3N) credentials to participate in the chat. We'll remind everyone to check back in at that time.

Talkcast, 7 pm PT/10 pm ET: Scary walking robots edition (http://www.tuaw.com/2013/12/15/talkcast-7-pm-pt-10-pm-et-scary-walking-robots-edition/) originally appeared on Breaking Apple News, Tips and Reviews from The Unofficial Apple Weblog (http://www.tuaw.com) on Sun, 15 Dec 2013 18:30:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds (http://legal.aol.com/terms-of-service/full-terms/).

Source (http://fuze.me/20099010) | Permalink | Email this | Comments
