OS X Yosemite public beta: What you need to know

Back in June, at WWDC, Apple announced the next major version of its OS for Macs, Yosemite (OS X 10.10) (http://www.macworld.com/article/2357764/apple-announces-os-x-yosemite.html). Though the official release of Yosemite is slated for “this fall,” the company is breaking from tradition by offering pre-release versions (http://www.macworld.com/article/2456968/apple-os-x-yosemite-public-beta-arrives-thursday.html) of Yosemite to the general public.</p><p>
Given that this marks the first time a major new version of OS X has been available to users before it’s actually released (not counting the original Mac OS X Public Beta (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_OS_X_Public_Beta)), you likely have questions.
