How the Phones 4U collapse affects your iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus pre-orders

Last night British retail received yet another blow with the news that high-street phone retailer, Phones 4U, is heading into administration. From September 12 the retailer had been accepting pre-orders for the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus and we've now got information as to what's going to happen courtesy of the BBC (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/29201191).

The company says that any phones that have been ordered and sent out can be used as normal by customers. However, orders of phones yet to be dispatched will be cancelled and refunds automatically paid to customers. Phones 4U customer services remain operational and available on 0800 072 5855, the company adds. Customers whose phones are being repaired should also use this number.

New iPhones can often ship well before launch day since there are agreements in place with the couriers to hold the packages so they all go out at the same time. So if you pre-ordered through Phones 4U and have a notice that your phone has been shipped, you should be OK. If it hasn't shipped you aren't going to get it, which leaves you in an unfortunate situation. Firstly you'll need to double-check your refund has gone through but then you're going to have to look elsewhere to find a new iPhone.

With Apple that's looking impossible without taking a chance and lining up early on launch morning. Stores across the country are showing no availability on the full range of models for in-store collection and home delivery is currently slated as 3-4 weeks. You might have better luck going through your carrier or at rival high street chain, Carphone Warehouse, so it's worth contacting them as soon as you can if you have to have one this week.

The collapse of the retailer is another blow to the British high street and comes after EE and Vodafone, which accounted for the vast majority of the chains business, decided to end their respective agreements.

Source: BBC (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/29201191)
