Broadcom adds HomeKit support to its embedded device platform

Broadcom has added full support for Apple's HomeKit to its connected home platform, WICED.

Broadcom's Wireless Internet Connectivity for Embedded Devices (WICED) platform, and it's accompanying SDK, now helps hardware manufacturers and software developers take advantage of Apple's HomeKit (http://www.imore.com/homekit) connected home platform. The WICED platform is built as a complete package for building connected devices, and meets the HomeKit standards of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

From Broadcom (http://www.broadcom.com/press/release.php?id=s912541):

Broadcom's WICED platform enables developers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to take advantage of the growing HomeKit ecosystem with a complete solution. By helping companies create IoT products that are HomeKit compliant, Broadcom is reducing time-to-market and improving the consumer experience by delivering home automation devices that enable a seamless connection to their home network and can be controlled from a HomeKit-supported app on their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

Broadcom's WICED hardware module can be used to connect devices without HomeKit support to appliances built with the platform, like connecting a Bluetooth light to a smart switch compatible with HomeKit. You can then use the light with all of your other HomeKit-compatible hardware and applications.

Developers and hardware manufacturers can get their hands on the Broadcom WICED hardware module and SDK right now.

Source: Broadcom (http://www.broadcom.com/press/release.php?id=s912541)
