The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit upheld the patent infringement violations found by the jury. But the $382 million awarded for trade dress dilution will have to be reconsidered by the lower court. Trade dress is a legal term for a trademark on the way a product is packaged or presented.

The amount awarded to Apple in that trial (http://www.imore.com/tag/apple-vs-samsung), once over $1 billion, now sits at around $550 million. The verdict in the case originally came in August 2012, following a lengthy trail in which Apple alleged that Samsung had violated several of the company's patents. A jury eventually found that Samsung did, in fact, violate several Apple patents, and ordered them to pay damages to Apple.

Source: Reuters (http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/05/18/us-samsung-apple-appeal-idUSKBN0O31E020150518?feedType=RSS&feedName=technologyNews)
