Earlier this month, the first known case of law enforcement requiring a suspect to unlock their phone using Face ID (https://9to5mac.com/2018/10/01/law-enforcement-face-id-unlock/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+9To5Mac-MacAllDay+%289+to+5+Mac+-+Apple+Intelligence%29) surfaced. Now, Motherboard (https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/5984jq/cops-dont-look-iphonex-face-id-unlock-elcomsoft) reports that cops around the United States are receiving instruction to ensure they themselves do not look at an iPhone X or iPhone XS displays, as that could count as one of the ‘false’ trials, and thus disable Face ID.
