Hack Enables SMS Messaging on the iPad 3G

It seems that the iPhone Dev Team have been wicked busy of late. According to MacNN, along with their recent announcment of the untethered jailbreak champ Spirit, they've also wrangled a method for sending SMS messages from an iPad 3G. Sadly, for the time being, however, most users should classify the find under "proof of concept."In order to send out a text message from their iPad, the iPhone Dev Team had to jump through a number of hoops. The hack has no GUI requiring raw code to leverage it, nor will it work using the 3G Micro-SIM that the tablet come provided with, as AT&T prohibits the service on the iPad. Varying reports state that users hot to trot with iPad SMS at their beck and call can either insert a Micro-SIM provided by a different service, or trim down an exisiting AT&T SIM to Micro-SIM size. You might want to wait this one out for the time being, folks. With no graphic user interface, and the tinker-work involved to get this up and running, it seems like a lot of trouble to go through in order to fire off a message that you could send out on your phone a heck of a lot easier. There's little doubt that if the iPhone Dev Team can produce a viable, user-friendly version of this hack for the masses to partake in, we'll hear about it soon enough.
