WWDC Rumor: Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer Guest at Keynote?

If one Steve on stage at the Worldwide Developer Conference this year isn’t enough for you, maybe you’ll get a bonus Steve -- at least for a few minutes.Barron’s Tech Trader Daily blogger Eric Savitz is reporting on a potential surprise at this year’s WWDC 2010 keynote on June 7, which could see Apple CEO Steve Jobs stepping aside for at least a few minutes to give the stage to… Microsoft boss Steve Ballmer? That’s what Global Equities Research analyst Trip Chowdry seems to think, claiming that a full seven minutes of Steve Jobs’ June 7 keynote at WWDC “has been blocked off for a presentation by Microsoft to talk about Visual Studio 2010, the company’s suite of development tools.”We’re not sure if that news exactly contradicts this week’s comment by analyst Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray, who claims that no surprises are likely at the event -- Microsoft’s Visual Studio 2010 is likely only to thrill developers anyhow.According to Chowdry, the new version of Visual Studio will allow developers to write native applications for the iPad, iPhone/iPod touch and Mac OS X. “And here’s the kicker,” Barron’s writes. “[Chowdry] thinks Microsoft’s presentation could be given by none other than Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. (Or if not, at least Bob Muglia, who runs Microsoft’s server and tools business.)”At the very least, maybe we’ll get a Jerry Springer-esque on-stage throw down between the two Steves, which could be entertaining…(Image courtesy of GottaBeMobile.com)
