      Testimony of Scott Forstall, Apple’s SVP of iOS software, dating back to a few months ago reveals some interesting information about Apple’s inertial scrolling patent (also known as the rubber band effect) and how Steve Jobs personally tried to ensure that Samsung didn’t copy it.
Inertial scrolling is an integral part of the smoothness of iOS, and something that was radically new back in 2007, when the iPhone was introduced. In fact, in the 2007 keynote, Steve Jobs recalled an incident where he showed the iPhone to someone outside Apple for an opinion on the device, to which the person replied “You had me at scrolling.”
