5.5-inch iPhone could offer iPad-like interfaces in landscape mode

<div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" property="content:encoded"><p><a href='http://www.imore.com/55-inch-iphone-could-offer-ipad-interfaces-landscape-mode' title="5.5-inch iPhone could offer iPad-like interfaces in landscape mode"><img src='http://www.imore.com/sites/imore.com/files/styles/large_wm_brw/public/field/image/2014/02/iphone_6_fake_mockup_hero.jpg?itok=jkI138kP' /></p> <p>It looks like the 5.5-inch version of the upcoming iPhone 6 (http://www.imore.com/iphone-6) will offer landscape mode, with a two-column user interface similar to that of the iPad (http://www.imore.com/ipad). Developer Steven Troughton-Smith tweaked the resolution of the iOS simulator to 736 points x 414 points, going by the assumption that the new iPhone will feature a screen resolution of 2208 x 1242. In doing so, he was able to get a two-column view that offers much more productivity.</p> <!--break--> <div class="media-gallery"> <a href='http://www.imore.com/55-inch-iphone-could-offer-ipad-interfaces-landscape-mode' title="5.5-inch iPhone could offer iPad-like interfaces in landscape mode"><img src='http://www.imore.com/sites/imore.com/files/styles/thumbnail/public/field/image/2014/09/calendar-screenshot.png?itok=bRqVO6Af' /> (http://www.imore.com/sites/imore.com/files/styles/xlarge/public/field/image/2014/09/calendar-screenshot.png?itok=bRqVO6Af)<a href='http://www.imore.com/55-inch-iphone-could-offer-ipad-interfaces-landscape-mode' title="5.5-inch iPhone could offer iPad-like interfaces in landscape mode"><img src='http://www.imore.com/sites/imore.com/files/styles/thumbnail/public/field/image/2014/09/ios-simulator-screen-shot.png?itok=FtmEUAPA' /> (http://www.imore.com/sites/imore.com/files/styles/xlarge/public/field/image/2014/09/ios-simulator-screen-shot.png?itok=FtmEUAPA)<a href='http://www.imore.com/55-inch-iphone-could-offer-ipad-interfaces-landscape-mode' title="5.5-inch iPhone could offer iPad-like interfaces in landscape mode"><img src='http://www.imore.com/sites/imore.com/files/styles/thumbnail/public/field/image/2014/09/ios-simulator-screen-2.png?itok=Ub-p_vFQ' /> (http://www.imore.com/sites/imore.com/files/styles/xlarge/public/field/image/2014/09/ios-simulator-screen-2.png?itok=Ub-p_vFQ)<a href='http://www.imore.com/55-inch-iphone-could-offer-ipad-interfaces-landscape-mode' title="5.5-inch iPhone could offer iPad-like interfaces in landscape mode"><img src='http://www.imore.com/sites/imore.com/files/styles/thumbnail/public/field/image/2014/09/game-center-screenshot.png?itok=GoxhSOZf' /> (http://www.imore.com/sites/imore.com/files/styles/xlarge/public/field/image/2014/09/game-center-screenshot.png?itok=GoxhSOZf)</div> <p>From the screenshots, it is evident that if Apple does bring landscape orientation to the iPhone, the implementation will be similar to that as what we're used to on the iPad. In portrait mode, the single column interface will remain unchanged, and by rotating the device to landscape mode, the iPhone will automatically switch to a two-column layout.</p> <p>The question remains as to whether Apple will bring landscape mode to all iPhones, or just the 5.5-inch version. At WWDC (http://www.imore.com/wwdc-2014) earlier this year, landscape mode was demoed on a current-gen iPhone, which boasts a 4-inch screen. With varying screen sizes and resolutions across the iOS ecosystem, Apple is set to roll out Adaptive UI in iOS 8 (http://www.imore.com/adaptive-ui-ios-8-explained), which offers a single storyboard that allows devs to build apps for devices with different screen sizes and display densities.</p> <p>Also, by offering a landscape orientation mode on the iPhone, Apple can encourage devs to build universal apps for both the iPhone and the iPad. All shall be revealed in a day's time (http://www.imore.com/apple-announces-september-9-special-event), so stay tuned to iMore for all the coverage from tomorrow's event.</p> <p>Source: Twitter (Steven Troughton-Smith) (https://twitter.com/stroughtonsmith); Via: 9to5Mac (http://9to5mac.com/2014/09/07/5-5-inch-iphone-6-may-run-landscape-apps-with-more-productive-ipad-like-interface/)</p> </div></div></div><div id="comment-wrapper-nid-26803"></div><img width='1' height='1' src='http://tipb.com.feedsportal.com/c/33998/f/616881/s/3e3de710/sc/15/mf.gif' border='0'/><br clear='all'/>
