Bill Campbell, former Apple employee and board member, passes away

Bill Campbell, once a vice president at Apple and a former member of the company's board, has passed away at the age of 75 after a battle with cancer. Known widely throughout Silicon Valley as "The Coach," Campbell was the CEO of Intuit from 1994 to 1998, and advised the leaders of several major tech companies, including the late Steve Jobs.

From Re/code:

Campbell ran companies like Intuit and worked in key jobs at Apple, Claris and Go, and also served on a plethora of boards, including Columbia University, Intuit and Apple. He had been a longtime adviser to Google execs including Page and Eric Schmidt –and really just about every major tech executive you could think of at some point.

Campbell joined Apple's board following Jobs' return to the company in 1997, stepping down in 2014.

Our condolences to Bill Campbell's friends and family.

Update: Apple CEO Tim Cook paid his respects to Campbell on Twitter, and Apple is paying tribute to him on the front page of its website...
