Apple rehires software security expert Jon CallasApple has confirmed it has rehired Jon Callas, a well-known expert in software security and encryption, sometime earlier in May. .
According to Reuters:
Jon Callas, who co-founded several well-respected secure communications companies including PGP Corp, Silent Circle and Blackphone, rejoined Apple in May, an Apple spokesman said. Callas had worked at Apple in the 1990s and again between 2009 and 2011, when he designed an encryption system to protect data stored on a Macintosh computer. Apple declined to detail his new role, and Callas declined to comment.
The return of Callas to Apple would seem to hint strongly that the company will be beefing up its software security in the future. It also comes after Apple's public clashes with the FBI over whether or not the company should help law enforcement unlock password-protected iPhones.
