Expo Notes: Ergotron's workstations show off their Mac metal

Ergotron has long made ergonomic workstation accessories, but never before have those products been so directly aimed at Mac users. Here on the Macworld/iWorld showfloor, the company has set up prototypes of a striking new line of WorkFit Sit-Stand Workstation that include products specifically designed to match Apple’s aluminum-body computers.

Available in June or July of this year, the WorkFit line includes the typical ergonomic fare, such as an adjustable-height desk and an articulating LCD arm. But the most impressive of the new products is the upcoming WorkFit-A (pictured above). The WorkFit-A, which the company estimates will sell for $599, clamps onto any sturdy sit-down desk and provides a heavy-duty, articulating arm designed specifically for Apple’s recent iMac, Cinema Display, and Thunderbolt Display models. (When used with one of Apple’s displays, the WorkFit-A can also host a Mac mini.)

Instead of just providing an arm for mounting your iMac or display, the WorkFit-A also features a large work surface made from a single piece of anodized aluminum—one that matches your iMac or display perfectly. You can place your keyboard and mouse or trackpad on the work surface and then lower everything to desk level to work while seated, or raise it up to 20 inches above the desk to work while standing. The company will also offer an additional attachment for placing your keyboard lower than the main work surface if you’d like to use that surface for other things, or to increase the distance between the keyboard and the display.

A second model, the WorkFit-P, is designed for laptop use: It will offer the same large, aluminum, work surface but won’t include the iMac/display mount. The WorkFit-P will retail for $250 to $300.To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here
