Discussing the iPad for photographers

Increasingly, cameras housed in mobile phones and tablets are performing respectable imitations of the point-and-shoots that we once stuffed into purses and pockets. Although the dedicated digital camera is hardly dead, there are more and more occasions when one of these gadget-bound snappers will do. Take the camera you find in your iPad, for example. Not only can it capture decent images, but the device it inhabits can be stocked with apps that can edit and enhance those images. This episode’s guest, Jeff Carlson, provides pointers on exactly how that can be done.

In the course of our conversation, Jeff and I touched on some apps and gadgets useful to the iPad photographer. They include:

Camera+ ($2)
Handy Photo ($2)
iPhoto for iOS ($5)
Snapseed (free)
Blux Camera for iPad ($1)
Photosmith ($20)
CameraMator ($295)
CamRanger ($300)
iUSBportCamera ($300)
Triggerrap ($30)

And, of course, there’s Jeff’s The iPad for Photographers, available from bookstores and ebook retailers everywhere.
