Apple throttles iWork for iCloud access for new users

If you haven’t already tried out iWork for iCloud, you may have to wait a while. As first reported by 9to5Mac, Apple’s temporarily disabled access to the online suite for new users, due to “an overwhelming response.”

However, if you have already used them, your access to the Web-based versions of Pages, Numbers, and Keynote will continue unimpeded. Apple invites other users to check back soon for access, and reminds them that they can continue to store their documents in iCloud for the time being, even if they can’t edit them. Macworld has reached out to Apple for comment.

The company first announced iWork for iCloud at the keynote of its Worldwide Developers Conference in June; since then, it opened up access to the service for developers and, late last week, to all iCloud users. However, the version available continues to be in beta, with Apple saying that certain features—including version history, printing, sending a link to a document, and more—are coming soon.

Compatible with Safari 6.0.3 or later, Chrome 27.0.1 and later, and Internet Explorer 9.0.8 or later, iWork for iCloud is due to see release later this year. For more information on the service, check out our thorough hands-on of iWork for iCloud.
