Doodle Jump is New King of the Paid App Hill

Stand aside, all other apps: The App Store has a new king at the throne, and he goes by the name of Doodle Jump.Business Insider is reporting that Lima Sky’s insanely addictive Doodle Jump is now the most downloaded paid app of all time, according to one of its creators, Igor Pusenjak. The previous top paid was Bejeweled. After being at or near the Number One spot on the App Store paid rankings all year long, Pusenjak is expecting the 99-cent Doodle Jump to hit a whopping four million downloads by the end of April. It was only back in January that Doodle Jump was closing in on the two million download mark -- which means the game is averaging 28,000 downloads per day. Pusenjak, who developed the game with his brother Marko, appear to have raked in about $2.7 million from Doodle Jump alone. If you’re not one of the nearly four million who own the game, the brothers describe it on the App Store as “insanely addictive” and one reviewer compared it to the wildly popular Super Mario Bros. on the NES. The popularity of the game is a testament to its simplicity: Just tilt your device left and right to get the four-legged “Doodle the Doodler” to bounce from level to level. It goes without saying that the brothers are now hard at work on an iPad version of the game as well. Despite the urgency, “we’ve decided to get it done right and not rush it to the market,” Pusenjak concludes.(Image courtesy of BusinessInsider.com)
