Apple Watch gets a healthy boost from slew of healthcare apps

Ahead of the Apple Watch's launch, a large number of healthcare companies have announced today that they will support the wearable with updates to their mobile apps.

One of the Apple Watch's main features is its health-tracking abilities, and now companies like Anthem, Kaiser Permanente, and WebMD have announced updates for their mobile apps that will allow users to track their activity, keep in touch with healthcare providers, and receive health and wellness notifications right from their wrists. Here's the breakdown of each app that will pick up support for the Apple Watch:

Centered from HCSC - Centered seeks to help users manage stress through exercise. On the Apple Watch, Centered leverages Glances for step information and sends notifications to log your mood.

cFHR from CareEvolution - Sends alerts for suggested preventive screenings, gaps in disease management and prescription refills, and potential drug interactions.

Vocera - Connects healthcare workers and helps them respond to and prioritize calls, alerts, and messages from other team members.

WebMD - Helps users stay on top of their medication schedules with reminders and alerts.

Every Body Walk! from Kaiser Permanente - Allows users to set fitness goals, view statistics, and track their activity right from their wrist.

Dexcom - The Dexcom G4 Platinum Continuous Glucose Monitoring System will support the Apple Watch through connected iPhone apps, allowing users to track their glucose levels from the Apple Watch.

HealthTap - Allows users to connect to a doctor day or night through video consults on their iPhone. Users can use their Apple Watch to find a doctor and even provide health data gathered through the wearable.

Medisafe - Extends the functionality of the iPhone app by allowing users to track medications and mark them as "taken" from their wrist.

drchrono - Lets doctors look through a patient's medical records right on their wrist.

Doximity - Helps doctors keep in touch with one another through HIPAA secure messages, incoming fax alerts, view pending invites to connect with other doctors.

A number of these apps incorporate data from Apple's HealthKit which users can use to track their health and fitness information, which can then be shared with their doctors. As a reminder, if you haven't done so yet, you can pre-order the Apple Watch now, and the wearable is set to launch on April 24.

Apple Watch

Apple Watch buyers guide

Apple Watch specs

Apple Watch FAQ

Apple Watch news hub

Apple Watch discussion

WatchKit FAQ

WatchKit best practices
