38mm Apple Watch Sport teardown finds 205mAh battery, Taptic Engine and Apple S1 CPU

<div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" property="content:encoded"><p class="intro">The folks at iFixit have dismantled an Apple Watch to find out the exact nature of the hardware that makes the smartwatch tick.</p> <!--break--> <p>The Apple Watch comes with an AMOLED Retina display, and is offered in two sizes: the 38mm model, which has a resolution of 272 x 340 pixels (290 ppi), and a 42mm model that features a resolution of 312 x 390 pixels (302 ppi). The Watch is powered by Apple's custom-designed S1 CPU, and comes with 8GB on-board storage. In terms of sensors, there's an accelerometer, gyroscope, heart rate monitor, microphone and a speaker. The heart rate sensor uses a combination of infrared and visible-light sensors to determine your heart rate. Connectivity options on the Watch are in the form of NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0.</p> <p>iFixit notes that the display panel was hard to remove as the "display cables are trapped under a springy bracket." Once the display is removed, we get a look at the Taptic Engine and Digital Crown, as well as the 3.8 V, 0.78 Wh 205mAh battery (secured by light adhesive) that is powering the Watch:</p> <div class="media-gallery"> <a href="?itok=apySMRuO"><a href='http://www.imore.com/38mm-apple-watch-sport-teardown-finds-205mah-battery-taptic-engine-and-apple-s1-cpu' title="38mm Apple Watch Sport teardown finds 205mAh battery, Taptic Engine and Apple S1 CPU"><img src='?itok=apySMRuO' /><a href="?itok=tDwoDz4J"><a href='http://www.imore.com/38mm-apple-watch-sport-teardown-finds-205mah-battery-taptic-engine-and-apple-s1-cpu' title="38mm Apple Watch Sport teardown finds 205mAh battery, Taptic Engine and Apple S1 CPU"><img src='?itok=tDwoDz4J' /><a href="?itok=AbATJWjo"><a href='http://www.imore.com/38mm-apple-watch-sport-teardown-finds-205mah-battery-taptic-engine-and-apple-s1-cpu' title="38mm Apple Watch Sport teardown finds 205mAh battery, Taptic Engine and Apple S1 CPU"><img src='?itok=AbATJWjo' /><a href="?itok=TBpwGDcV"><a href='http://www.imore.com/38mm-apple-watch-sport-teardown-finds-205mah-battery-taptic-engine-and-apple-s1-cpu' title="38mm Apple Watch Sport teardown finds 205mAh battery, Taptic Engine and Apple S1 CPU"><img src='?itok=TBpwGDcV' /><a href="?itok=gm9tmj3i"><a href='http://www.imore.com/38mm-apple-watch-sport-teardown-finds-205mah-battery-taptic-engine-and-apple-s1-cpu' title="38mm Apple Watch Sport teardown finds 205mAh battery, Taptic Engine and Apple S1 CPU"><img src='?itok=gm9tmj3i' /><a href="?itok=wW7ayaBQ"><a href='http://www.imore.com/38mm-apple-watch-sport-teardown-finds-205mah-battery-taptic-engine-and-apple-s1-cpu' title="38mm Apple Watch Sport teardown finds 205mAh battery, Taptic Engine and Apple S1 CPU"><img src='?itok=wW7ayaBQ' /><a href="?itok=m7d2xnb7"><a href='http://www.imore.com/38mm-apple-watch-sport-teardown-finds-205mah-battery-taptic-engine-and-apple-s1-cpu' title="38mm Apple Watch Sport teardown finds 205mAh battery, Taptic Engine and Apple S1 CPU"><img src='?itok=m7d2xnb7' /></div> <!--/media-gallery--> <p>There are two model numbers that distinguish the 38mm Watch from the 42mm offering, with the former dubbed A1553 and the latter A1554.
