The iPhone's popularity in Europe's five largest countries continued to grow in Q1 2015, with customers switching from Android representing a large portion of that growth.

iPhone usage climbed to 20.3% across France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, and Spain in the first three months of 2015. That's up 1.8% over the same time last year. Driving sales in those countries were the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Additionally, almost one-third of Apple's new customers switched to an iPhone from an Android device, according to Kantar Worldpanel:

"In the first quarter of 2015, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus continued to attract consumers across Europe, including users who previously owned an Android smartphone," reported Carolina Milanesi, chief of research at Kantar Worldpanel ComTech. "On average, across Europe's big five countries during the first quarter, 32.4% of Apple's new customers switched to iOS from Android."

Apple has also seen substantial growth in China over the last year, with their smartphone marketshare rising to 26.1%, up from 17.9%. China is also driving more volume for the company than the U.S.

As for the U.S. itself, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus now comprise 18% of all iPhones in use across the country. Additionally, 64% of all iPhones in the U.S. are an iPhone 5 or newer. Interestingly, you'll need an iPhone 5 or later in order to make use of Apple's latest device, the Apple Watch.

You can read Kantar Worldpanel's full report at the link below.

Source: Kantar Worldpanel
