Apple reportedly still working to finalize music streaming deals ahead of WWDC

Apple is reportedly still negotiating terms with music labels over its upcoming streaming service just days before an expected WWDC debut.

Days before WWDC kicks off, Apple is still said to be in talks with major music labels over streaming rights, with the revenue split said to be the main point of concern. From Bloomberg:

The labels are pushing to get a larger chunk of revenue than they receive under their current deals with Spotify Ltd., a competing streaming service, people familiar with the negotiations said. Both sides want to complete a deal before Apple's June 8 annual event in San Francisco for more than 5,000 developers, according to the people, who asked not to be named because the talks are continuing.

The report goes on to mention that labels are pushing to take a 60 percent revenue share—5 percent more than they receive from Apple's rival-to-be, Spotify.

This isn't the first time we've heard of snags in the negotiation process with music labels. Just last month, a report from Billboard suggested something similar, but a WWDC debut was still planned for the service. Similarly, Apple was said to originally be targeting a $7.99 per month price for the service, but backed off of that price due to pressure from music labels. In any case, it seems that we'll likely still get a look at the service during the WWDC keynote on June 8.

Source: Bloomberg
