That's up from 41.3% in January, no doubt buoyed by strong iPhone 6 sales during that period. They were followed by Samsung at 28.6%, with LG at 8.4%, Motorola at 4.9%, and HTC coming in fifth with 3.7% of the market.

Android is still the most popular operating system, though its share dipped slightly to 52.2%. iOS rose to 43.1%, up from 41.3% in January. Windows Phone held the third spot, though with a decrease from 3.6% to 3.0%. BlackBerry dropped from 1.8% down to 1.5%. Symbian still sits in fifth place, staying constant at 0.1%.

In the U.S., 188.6 million people owned smartphones during the measuring period. The ten most popular apps for smartphone owners between January and April of 2015 were Facebook, YouTube, Google Search, Facebook Messenger, Google Play, Google Maps, Gmail, Pandora Radio, Instagram, and iTunes Radio/iCloud.

Source: comScore
