Apple promotes Lisa Jackson to head of policy on environmental and social issues

Apple has promoted Lisa Jackson, moving her from lead on environmental issues to the company's head of policy.

In a memo to employees today, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that Lisa Jackson, who was the former head of the Environmental Protection Agency before heading up Apple's environmental policy, is being promoted to the position of Vice President of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives. From the memo, as reported by The Washington Post:

So I've asked Lisa to lead our work in these areas and to take on a broader role as vice president of Environment, Policy and Social Initiatives. Lisa will apply her passion and her unique skill set to integrate teams across Apple and make our impact even greater. As part of her new role, Lisa will also take over management of our worldwide Government Affairs function. Lisa already interacts regularly with governments around the world so she is a natural for this new role leading our public policy teams.

In the rest of the letter, Cook highlights Apple's progress on environmental issues, noting that "Apple is an industry leader in renewable energy, elimination of toxics and protecting working forests", efforts that Jackson has had a lot to do with. He then goes on to say that we can expect to see more innovative programs from the company that focus on issues of sustainability under Jackson's leadership.

Source: The Washington Post; Via: The Verge
