Apple reportedly piloting retail store program for off-site iPhone repairs

[/url]

Apple Retail Stores in the U.S., Europe, and Japan will reportedly soon begin testing a new program for off-site repairs for iPhones. Specifically, the program is said to target the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, and 6s Plus. The program will apparently see phones that fall into one of three categories be shipped to an off-site repair center.

Phones to be shipped off are said to include those that can't connect to iTunes on a computer, phones that will not power on, and those that will not boot past the Apple logo. Additionally, Apple Stores will apparently loan temporary phones out while they wait, according to 9to5Mac:

If a customer agrees to have the iPhone 6, 6s, 6 Plus or 6s Plus sent off-site for diagnostics and repair, he or she will be loaned a 16GB iPhone 6 to use in the interim. This is the first time that Apple is offering loaner iPhone 6 units to customers and repairing the devices for general issues off-site. Apple expects the off-site repair process to take three to five business days.

For now, the program will reportedly remain in pilot form in select stores, and may not end up coming to other Apple Retail Locations. The program is said to begin at some point this week.

Source: 9to5Mac
