Comment: Seven years on from Steve Jobs’ ‘Thoughts on Flash,’ it’s time for this protocol to die

<div class="feat-image"></div><p>It’s now seven years since Steve Jobs wrote his famous <a href="https://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Thoughts on Flash[/url] open letter, in which he explained to Adobe the six reasons why Apple did not allow <a href="https://9to5mac.com/guides/flash/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Flash[/url] on iOS devices. These reasons were, in brief:</p>
<ul>
<li>It’s a proprietary product, and Apple prefers open web standards [sometimes]</li>
<li>An increasing number of websites are switching to better video formats</li>
<li>Flash has poor security, reliability and performance</li>
<li>Flash decreases battery life</li>
<li>Flash was designed for desktop, not touch</li>
<li>It’s an additional layer that holds back innovation</li>
</ul>
<p>Most of those reasons are just as valid today, security not least among them …</p>
