iMac Pro AMD Vega GPU designer Raja Koduri takes sabbatical

Message boards and websites sparked into a small frenzy when Fudzilla reported that former Apple employee Raja Koduri is taking a break from his duties as chief architect at AMD's Radeon Technologies Group.

There was an initial gut reaction that thought Raja was being pushed aside due to Vega's various perceived drawbacks, like high power use and relatively weak gaming performance.

But If you read our coverage of the Vega GPU in the upcoming iMac Pro, you'd already know that Vega might be weaker in games but competes fiercely with NVIDIA's high end offerings at a lower price when it comes to productivity workloads.

In the end, the tempest in a teapot was allayed with Raja releasing the following message to his team:


  RTG Team,
  You haven't heard from me collectively in a while – a symptom not only of the whirlwind of launching Vega, but simply of the huge number of demands on my time since the formation of RTG. Looking back over this short period, it is an impressive vie...
