Does the Apple TV 4K support optical audio?

Best answer: Unfortunately, the Apple TV 4K doesn't include native support for optical audio. Your best bet is to use an audio extractor, and since you're using an Apple TV 4K, you'll want one that supports 4K video.

Those who relied on the optical audio port to hook up your AV system will be disappointed to find that the Apple TV 4K doesn't include that optical audio port. Luckily, you can get around that with an HDMI-to-Toslink (optical audio) extractor.

If you already have an audio setup in your home that includes an A/V receiver with optical audio support, you should, of course, use that. But for most people, VewHD's 4K HDMI Audio Extractor will do just fine. It features optical audio support without the large footprint of most receivers.
