Last-Minute WWDC Leak: Is This Apple’s Magic Trackpad?

(Photos courtesy of Engadget)While most eyes are on today’s WWDC keynote looking for a new iPhone or maybe an updated Apple TV, Apple appears poised to offer at least one surprise in the form of a long-rumored “Magic Trackpad.”Engadget has received an eleventh-hour leak, complete with photos, of a new Apple device called the Magic Trackpad. Many MacBook Pro fans who mostly use their laptop as a desktop computer -- complete with external keyboard, mouse and monitor -- have long been in search of the ultimate external trackpad, and Apple’s Magic Mouse wasn’t quite it. Likewise, many graphics pros prefer a more textile feel to their input device, but need a larger space to it with.Enter the Magic Trackpad. Based on Engadget’s leaked photos (the front shown above and the back with the Apple logo shown below), the device appears pretty real, and seems likely to be something that Apple might introduce at the WWDC keynote today at 10am PST, when CEO Steve Jobs takes the stage. If you recall, there were a flurry of rumors about such an input device earlier this year, including a trademark application for something called… “Magic Trackpad.”The move would be a logical one, given the move from traditional mice to the Magic Mouse, which fell mostly short of its potential but shows that Apple clearly believes that finger-based input is the future. Engadget’s tipsters claim that the Magic Trackpad supports handwriting recognition in addition to “every feature you can find on a Magic Mouse (and possibly features of a MacBook Pro trackpad” -- straight from the mouth of someone who “claims to be personally testing it.”We’ll all know for sure soon enough, but it sounds good to us…
