New Mac and iPad Clients Coming from Tweetie Creator

Just because Twitter absorbed the developer of Tweetie for their official iPhone app doesn’t mean that you won’t see an update to the Mac version -- or one for the iPad.MacNN is reporting that Tweetie creator Loren Brichter has made it clear that development on the Mac version of the Twitter client is not dead, despite his company, atebits, being bought out by Twitter themselves. The first fruit of that partnership is the recently released (and newly free) Twitter for iPhone -- but it won’t stop there.“It’s not gonna die -- I refuse to let it die,” Brichter says regarding Tweetie for the Mac. “Everyone at Twitter loves the Mac version.”Indeed, Tweetie 2.0 for the Mac is coming, even though the work was delayed by atebits’ acquisition by Twitter. Work on the Mac version should resume “within a few weeks,” the developer notes, with a Tweetie 3.0 already on the map down the road. Also in the works is a native iPad client, which is expected sooner rather than later. "The goal is to exceed the Twitter iPhone app in the iPad. I swear the reunification is coming between iPhone, Mac, and iPad," Brichter adds. The developer is so excited that he even wishes some of the iPad code could be brought back to the Mac."If you break the idea that we have to use software keyboards the traditional way, there's so much potential for insanely fast programming," the developer says of working on the iPad. "Think about keyboard buttons becoming whole variable names. You could become so efficient while programming!"For now, we’ll be content with our Tweetie updates, thank you very much…
