Twitter updates TweetDeck with new theme, other improvements

Twitter on Wednesday released an update to TweetDeck, its wholly owned app for managing multiple Twitter and Facebook timelines. The TweetDeck update—which is available for Mac, Windows, Chrome, and Web-based users—adds a handful of features, sports a mostly optional redesign, and introduces a few extra personalization options.

TweetDeck has long employed a darker interface, and it gets cleaned up a bit in the latest release of the app. But the app is now also ready to try its lighter side, with a new theme that pits dark text on a light background. Newly available for both themes is an option to adjust your font size.

In announcing the updates on its blog Wednesday, Twitter also highlighted various other improvements made to the app over the past year, including easier navigation with the new column navigator, list management, and profile improvements.

Notably, however, some core features that Twitter acknowledges are buggy in TweetDeck remain so in the new release: Scheduling tweets with photos attached, scheduling posts for Facebook, and other behaviors continue not to work in our early testing.

Twitter bought TweetDeck last year in a $40 million deal, adding the timeline manager to its stable of official apps. Don’t confuse TweetDeck with Twitter’s official app, though—that’s a different Twitter client the social networking company added to its arsenal in 2010.

TweetDeck is free. The Windows app will update automatically; Chrome users need to restart Chrome to install the update; and Mac users can grab the update from the Mac App Store.
