Apple seems to be allowing 200 test devices per developer account now

Over the weekend, reports started to appear on Twitter that Apple had upped the number of test devices -- iPhones, iPod touches and iPads that can be used to beta test unreleased apps and iOS software -- from 100 to 200 devices per developer account. While Apple has not yet updated its developer support documents officially announcing the change, I've been able to independently confirm the increase in allowed test devices with a number of developers.

To begin with, Apple has a limit on the number of devices a developer can test beta software on so devs can't distribute apps to an unlimited number of devices by bypassing release in the App Store. However, as test devices can't be unregistered, the 100-device limit can quickly get used up if a developer is testing an app on multiple models of iPhones, iPod touches and iPads running multiple iOS versions -- more so if any of those devices become lost or stolen.
