Nokia could bring back HERE maps to iPhone and iPad by end of 2014

[/url]

Nokia plans to bring back its HERE maps app to the iPhone and iPad by the end of 2014, according to the Wall Street Journal. This news comes a few days after Nokia announced plans to launch HERE maps for Samsung's Android smartphones and Tizen watches.

Nokia had previously released a version of HERE maps for the iPhone, but pulled it from the App Store in December, saying only that "recent changes to iOS 7 harm the user experience." In today's interview with company executive Sean Fernback, he admitted that the HERE maps for iOS was not up to their standards, saying, "It was a rushed product that was never thoroughly proven. Honestly, it went horribly wrong. But we've regrouped now."

Nokia wants to make HERE maps a major competitor to Google Maps, according to Fernback. He stated, "I'm convinced people are looking for alternatives. Google Maps is a good solution for many, their maps work very well, but it has looked the same and done the same for a long time."

The HERE apps will allow users to download maps for offline use, along with being able to search without the need for an Internet connection. What do you think of HERE maps coming back to iOS devices?

Source: Wall Street Journal
