iPhone 6 Plus vs. HTC and Samsung: How bendable are they really?

#bendgate has gone viral, appearing in everything from social networks to late night talk shows, but how much force does it really take to bend an iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and how does that compare to other popular phones? Apple has already shown off their facility, but now some independent tests have put them up against the iPhone 5, HTC One M8, LG G3, and the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. So, how did they all fare? Consumer Reports:

The iPhone 6 Plus, the more robust of the new iPhones in our testing, started to deform when we reached 90 pounds of force, and came apart with 110 pounds of force. With those numbers, it slightly outperformed the HTC One (which is largely regarded as a sturdy, solid phone), as well as the smaller iPhone 6, yet underperformed some other smart phones. Throughout most of our test, the LG G3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 bent, then recovered completely from each step up in force. But at 130 pounds, the case of the G3 fractured. At 150 pounds of force, the Note 3's screen splintered and it stopped working.

[
...] While nothing is (evidentally) indestructible, we expect that any of these phones should stand up to typical use.

It's clear to see the Note 3 coming out on top, but the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were not found to be less sturdy (by a sizeable margin) than other flagship smartphones available. The HTC One M8 is a highly rated smartphone ranking in at similar figures. But it's with the iPhone 5 where the report gets interesting, showing just how durable the previous generation of hardware was.

Sure, we'd like to see the latest iPhones rank higher up in the above table, but they're not likely to fall apart should you happen to press the screen a little too hard while playing Goat Simulator.

Read through the full Consumer Reports for more details and then let us know — Does this alleviate any lingering concerns? Is #bendgate behind us?
