Automatic update brings License+ to teach teens safe driving habits

Automatic Labs, the company behind the safe-driving app Automatic, has announced the launch of a new service called "License+" — a new tool that encourages good driving behavior for teens while providing valuable feedback to parents on how their kids are progressing behind the wheel.

License+ comes today in the form of an update to the Automatic app on Android, iOS, and the web. The update includes a 100-hour driving program that allows teens to track the progress of their driving abilities while also providing encouragement in the form a "drive score," which in turn results in a gold, silver, or bronze medal at the end of the course.

In addition to feedback to teens, the app provides information to parents including:

The teen's drive score

The teen's progress through the 100-hour program

Driving events like hard brakes, hard accelerations, and speeding over 70 mph

Cities visited

Speaking on the merits of the tool, License+ lead Steve Bishop said:

Unlike typical tracking and monitoring products, which can erode the hard-earned trust between parents and teens, License+ works through coaching, communication, and a bit of fun. We wanted new drivers to be able to demonstrate their progress, so we created features like badges that reward them when they master important skills like night time or highway driving.

It's important to note License+ requires use of the $99 Automatic connected car adapter in conjunction with the iPhone, Android, and web apps to function.

Do you think this new tool will help teen drivers and their parents in any substantial way? Let us know in the comments.

Free - Download Now

Source: Automatic
