Instagram adds landscape and portrait formats, showcases with new Star Wars mini-trailer

<div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" property="content:encoded"><p><a href='http://www.imore.com/instagram-adds-landscape-and-portrait-formats-showcases-new-star-wars-mini-trailer' title="Instagram adds landscape and portrait formats, showcases with new Star Wars mini-trailer"><img src='http://www.imore.com/sites/imore.com/files/styles/large_wm_brw/public/field/image/2015/08/instagram-update-new-sharing-iphone.jpg?itok=m42ZVTAS' /></p> <p>Instagram has added support for showing landscape and portrait images and videos in its popular photo sharing app. This will offer users a couple of extra options to show off their images and clips besides the current square format.</p> <!--break--> <p>Instagram stated:</p>
<p>Square format has been and always will be part of who we are. That said, the visual story you're trying to tell should always come first, and we want to make it simple and fun for you to share moments just the way you want to. It turns out that nearly one in five photos or videos people post aren't in the square format, and we know that it hasn't been easy to share this type of content on Instagram: friends get cut out of group shots, the subject of your video feels cramped and you can't capture the Golden Gate Bridge from end to end. Now, when choosing a photo or video, you can tap the format icon to adjust the orientation to portrait or landscape instead of square. Once you share the photo, the full-sized version of it will appear to all of your followers in feed in a beautiful, natural way. To keep the clean feel of your profile grid, your post will appear there as a center-cropped square.</p>
<p>In a pretty cool way to show off the new landscape format, Disney and Lucasfilm have debuted a new mini-trailer on the official Star Wars Instagram account for the upcoming movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens, with new footage from the film that opens in theaters this December</p> <blockquote class="instagram-media" data-instgrm-captioned="" data-instgrm-version="4" style=" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:658px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);"><div style="padding:8px;"> <div style=" background:#F8F8F8; line-height:0; margin-top:40px; padding:26.171875% 0; text-align:center; width:100%;"> <div style=" background:url(data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAACwAAAAsCAMAAAApWqozAAAAGFBMVEUiIiI9PT0eHh4gIB4hIBkcHBwcHBwcHBydr+JQAAAACHRSTlMABA4YHyQsM5jtaMwAAADfSURBVDjL7ZVBEgMhCAQBAf//42xcNbpAqakcM0ftUmFAAIBE81IqBJdS3lS6zs3bIpB9WED3YYXFPmHRfT8sgyrCP1x8uEUxLMzNWElFOYCV6mHWWwMzdPEKHlhLw7NWJqkHc4uIZphavDzA2JPzUDsBZziNae2S6owH8xPmX8G7zzgKEOPUoYHvGz1TBCxMkd3kwNVbU0gKHkx+iZILf77IofhrY1nYFnB/lQPb79drWOyJVa/DAvg9B/rLB4cC+Nqgdz/TvBbBnr6GBReqn/nRmDgaQEej7WhonozjF+Y2I/fZou/qAAAAAElFTkSuQmCC); display:block; height:44px; margin:0 auto -44px; position:relative; top:-22px; width:44px;"></div></div> <p style=" margin:8px 0 0 0; padding:0 4px;"> <a href="https://instagram.com/p/65PhxOs_RH/" style=" color:#000; font-family:Arial,sans-serif; font-size:14px; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal; line-height:17px; text-decoration:none; word-wrap:break-word;" target="_top">There has been an awakening... #StarWars #TheForceAwakens</p> <p style=" color:#c9c8cd; font-family:Arial,sans-serif; font-size:14px; line-height:17px; margin-bottom:0; margin-top:8px; overflow:hidden; padding:8px 0 7px; text-align:center; text-overflow:ellipsis; white-space:nowrap;">A video posted by Star Wars (@starwars) on <time style=" font-family:Arial,sans-serif; font-size:14px; line-height:17px;" datetime="2015-08-27T17:00:16+00:00">Aug 27, 2015 at 10:00am PDT</time></p></div> <script async="" defer="defer" src="//platform.instagram.com/en_US/embeds.js"></script><ul><li>Free - <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/instagram/id389801252?mt=8&amp;at=10l3Vy&amp;ct=d_im" title="" rel="nofollow">Download now</li> </ul><p>Source: Instagram</p> </div></div></div><br clear='all'/>
