WWDC Brings iAd Sign-Up, Safari Developer Program
As Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference winds down Friday, the company has kicked off two new programs for their developers. First up, the doors have swung open for those wishing to join the iAd network. The Safari Developer Program is also ready to accept developers as well.9to5Mac is reporting two just-announced developments from the closing day of WWDC 2010. The first one is likely the biggest for developers, since they can now sign up to be part of the iAd network, which Apple has been touting as one of the hot new “features†of iOS 4.“The iAd Network offers you a new, easy-to-implement source of revenue through incorporating iAd rich media ads in your applications,†the company’s website promises. “Apple sells and serves the ads, and you receive 60 percent of the advertising revenue. Learn about getting started with the iAd Network, how to prepare your apps for iAd, and how to create iAd rich media ads.â€But that’s not all: Apple has also taken the wraps off the free Safari Developer Program, offering developers tools and resources to create extensions for Safari 5, which was released late Monday night. “You can add buttons to the Safari toolbar, create bars of your own, modify the behavior and appearance of webpages, and more — all with HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript,†the page explains.Of course, enterprising developers are already hard at work on extensions for Safari 5, but the Safari Developer Program should help speed things along nicely. Although the program is free, it allows developers to create digital certificates for their extensions. Digital certificates first and foremost allow the extension to be installed within Safari 5, but it also protects the extension from being tampered with and also ensures that only the developer can update their work.
