Pioneer launches second-generation CarPlay head units, starting at $700

<div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" property="content:encoded"><p class="intro">Pioneer has released the second generation of its NEX head units with Apple's CarPlay (http://www.imore.com/carplay).</p> <p>These new systems, which first debuted at CES 2015 (http://www.imore.com/pioneers-nex-stereos-are-much-more-just-android-auto), offer integration not only with CarPlay, but Google's Android Auto.<!--break--> They also come with Pioneer's AppRadio, which connects to both iOS and Android devices, either over Bluetooth or a wired connection. There are five new units in total, according to Pioneer (http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20150323005147/en/Pioneer's-Generation-NEX-Receivers-Android-Auto-Apple#.VRAYKDA-BPN):</p>

<p>The 2015 NEX line includes the AVIC-8100NEX, AVIC-7100NEX and AVH-4100NEX, the first products to offer consumers both Android™ Auto and Apple CarPlay™ connectivity to provide maximum smartphone connectivity flexibility. Two additional models, the AVIC-6100NEX and AVIC-5100NEX, offer only Apple CarPlay compatibility.</p>

<p>CarPlay is Apple's system for connecting your iPhone to your car. It allows you to access apps like Maps, Phone, Messages, and Music, as well as compatible third-party apps. CarPlay came to many of Pioneer's existing head units last year as part of a software update, while this year's receivers were built with CarPlay in mind from the start.</p> <p>The receivers start at $700 for the AVH-4100NEX (http://www.imore.com/pioneers-avh-4100nex-android-autocarplay-head-unit-now-shipping-700), which started shipping last week, and go all the way up to $1,400 for the AVIC-8100NEX.
