Apple Stores drop AT&T iPhone subsidies in favor of installment plans

Up until recently, the major wireless carriers in the United States relied on subsidies to sell phones: Tying customers to two-year contracts, but allowing them to buy an expensive phone at a much cheaper up-front cost.
